It's Monday, August 4, 2025. I'm Albert Moller, and this is The Briefing, a daily analysis of news and events from a Christian worldview.

0:13.5

Welcome to the new season, and welcome to some really big headlines. Over the course of the last several weeks, there have clearly been a couple of headlines that have dominated, and one of these has to do with Israel's continuing military effort in Gaza.

0:26.7

The other has to do with conspiracy theories, Jeffrey Epstein, Donald Trump, and others.

0:31.3

We'll take them in turn. First, let's go to Gaza and understand the big headline news there

0:36.5

is a continuing effort

0:38.6

by the IDF, the Israel Defense Forces, to dislodge Hamas.

0:43.5

The resistance of Hamas has been long, and it is horrifying.

0:49.0

And it is very clear that Hamas is quite willing to expend nearly endless Palestinian blood and endless Palestinian lives

0:56.0

to meet its own political purposes. But the big news right now is the fact that the suffering in Gaza

1:01.8

has become very much a world concern. Now, I think there's a wrong way to respond to that and a right

1:07.0

way to respond to that. The right way to respond to that is to be concerned with people in need, whoever they are, wherever they are. And when we see people suffering, to do everything we

1:16.0

can to alleviate that suffering. It is clear there is grave human suffering there in Gaza.

1:21.6

There is grave human suffering when you look at so many of the Palestinian people. It is also

1:27.2

clear that they are being victimized

1:29.7

by the terrorist group that has been in political control. And when you come to understand what is

1:36.7

going on there, and you see the Hamas is very much still in control. And you had the headlines

1:42.1

coming out where there are people saying that Israel took that action, but it turns out that was Hamas. And then it turns out it was

1:48.0

Hamas, most famously, when you are looking at a tunnel that ran there in Gaza to a hospital.

1:55.4

And it was intentional. This is an intentional thing that has been uncovered time and again

1:59.7

where the terrorist organization is located near a hospital so that there will be maximum casualties of Israel to take any action against it. But that's now just thoroughly documented. But it's also incredibly well documented that the people in Gaza are suffering tremendously. And this is where there is a genuine, massive strategic

2:19.3

question for Israel. It's a moral question. Yes. It's also a strategic question. The strategic

2:23.8

question is, what do you do with a force like Hamas, a terrorist organization, that is not going
