A community is in mourning after a family, mostly children were shot and killed in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Police say the gunman shot and killed eight children, seven of his own.

His wife, who police say he was separating from, was hurt in the process.

The gunman was later shot and killed after trying to run from authorities.

ABC's Armando Garcia on the suspect's prior military record.

Police now tell us that Elkins led officers on a police chase and was killed.

An army official telling ABC News,

Shamar Elkins served in the Louisiana Army National Guard

for seven years and that he left the army as a private in 2020

and that he was not deployed.

The FAA now investigating a close call

at Nashville International Airport this weekend.
