1:05.0	Today is the first day of Black History Month here in the U.S. founded in 1926 by Father of Black History
1:13.7	Carter G. Woodson. It was originally just one week and was founded specifically with schools
1:19.5	in mind. As an academic, Woodson was well aware of how little Black history was taught in schools,
1:25.5	so the idea was to have one week intentionally chosen
1:28.7	to coincide with Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays, in which schools focused
1:33.9	more on black history and the inequities faced by black Americans. In 1970, black students
1:40.7	and staff at Kent State University expanded the week into Black History Month,
1:45.5	which grew in popularity over the years, eventually being recognized federally by President
1:50.0	Gerald Ford.
