Summary

A 2014 study found that around 500 times per year in the US, a parent kills their child/children. A mother kills her child on average, every three days. Why? There is never an easy answer - financial problems, single parenthood, multiple children, substance abuse and mental illness can all contribute to filicide.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss five recent cases where a mother has killed her child or children. Please note that this episode does contain some graphic details – listener and viewer discretion is advised.

  • Julissa Hart was pulled over by police in Minnesota in May 2022. She was covered in blood, which she tried to explain as menstrual blood. Police searched her vehicle and found her son Eli, deceased in the trunk. Julissa allegedly shot Eli while he was strapped into his car seat.
  • Angela Flores’ neighbors called 911 after they found her rambling incoherently in their yard. Just hours later, a 911 call was made from her home. Angela had allegedly murdered her three children on Mother’s Day this year.
  • Makaylia Jolley is a young mother aged 20 with two young babies. In May 2022, multiple 911 calls were made after she was seen throwing her infant daughter onto the road. The baby died and the death penalty is being sought in this case.
  • Trinh Nguyen was found almost unresponsive in her car. A note was found on the dash: “Please call 911 My children are Dead in their bed at 119 Timber Ridge Rd.’ Trinh’s two sons were shot in the head by their mother and they both passed away days later in hospital.
  • In September 2021, Fallon Harris asked her 12 y/o son Kaden where had he put her SD card. He was unable to give it back to his mother, so she shot him twice, killing him.

Whether I'm there, very sunny today. It was like the perfect temp today, which obviously love it.

Can't have enough. And I saw yesterday you sent a picture in our group chat that you

0:45.0

had like, I sent your car, which is kind of crazy for you. There's some crazy polar

0:49.9

Arctic blast or something. They're saying it's going to be the coldest day. I think Saturday's

0:54.2

meant to be the coldest day since 1989. I think I've spoken in the past about how we generally

0:59.3

have pretty mild winters, and that's the first time in my entire life I've ever, ever seen ice

1:04.5

on a car. So you can't, anyway. So it's been crazy, crazy cold weather, like freezing, not great.

1:11.6

For reference, you said it was like 40 degrees Fahrenheit. I think it was 44, which was about

1:18.0

seven maybe Celsius if I remember rightly, but when I drove the kids to school today, it was actually

1:23.8

four degrees Celsius. So that would be even less. I can't do the comparison, but I'm saying it

1:28.0

would be in the 30s, probably. So yeah, it's like, I know here in New York, it could literally be

1:34.8

just like zero out. We don't really get like below where I live. Anyways, below zero too much,

1:39.1

except the wind show will, but just like, I don't know, just crazy. You have, I said it before,

1:44.0

but you have to come visit here in the winter. I've been to New York once in the winter forever

1:49.6

ago when I was younger, and it did actually snow. We were there for Christmas, and they were telling

1:53.3

us about how it doesn't usually snow at Christmas time there. It's snow is light off, but

1:57.2

yeah, like here there, it'll snow like around Christmas time, but it's usually still like

2:02.7

not really snowy. But then when it's super cold, like when it's zero degrees out, it's like too cold
