Okay. Believe it or not, and I cannot believe it, we are now just 50 days out from the election.

And I don't know about you sitting at home or wherever you may be watching, but the ground has kind of never felt

shakier beneath my feet, just 50 days out from an election than it does right now. And here's why.

There is a lot happening all the time. I mean, the days do sometimes feel like weeks. The weeks

sometimes feel like years. And the stakes just feel impossibly high,

because they are. So tonight we're going to do our best to make sense of this moment. We are all

living through together with two very smart and sensible people. Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren

and John Assov are both going to be here at this table, and I can't wait to talk with both of them.

But first, I want to just get you up to speed about where we are right now.

Starting with the fact that for the second time in just about two months, authorities are investigating what the FBI is calling an apparent assassination attempt.

And here's why we've been able to piece together so

far. So yesterday afternoon, a secret service agent posted at Trump's Florida Golf Club, spotted a

subject armed with what he perceived to be a rifle on the public side of the golf course's perimeter fence.

So just less than 400 yards away from Trump and where he was playing

golf. Phone records also later showed that this same guy had been waiting in that vicinity

for about 12 hours. So the Secret Service agent fired multiple shots, forcing the suspect to flee

until he was pulled over and apprehended on 995. So no shots fired except by the Secret Service.

That's good news.

The suspect is in custody.

That's also good news.

And today that suspect, Ryan Wesley Ruth, appeared in court and was charged with two federal

gun crimes.
