Summary

Welcome to this week's moment episode, where I speak with the incredible Reshma Saujani, who is best known for the organisation she founded called Girls Who Code. It is one of the most influential nonprofits in the world and it has introduced millions of women to coding and the tech industry.  During the pandemic, Reshma found herself with a 3-week-old and a pre-schooler trying to run her organisation and look after her family full-time. And that's when she broke.  She says she spent the last 10 years telling girls to lean in and fight to get to the top; however, after her experience parenting and working during the pandemic, her message changed. Listen to this moment episode to hear Reshma’s thoughts why we need to keep our dreams alive in Motherhood. I hope you enjoy this episode. And maybe some of what you and I are talking about will happen in our generation, maybe the next.

But I really make a big deal around my kids of me doing stuff like that, of leaving, because I want them to see that I

am not martyring myself in motherhood, because that's what I saw my mum do. And that's what I

try to decondition myself. It's so hard. So I think breaking that cycle is so important and it's

so powerful. Help your family stay healthy this winter with Sambakol, the UK's number one supplement brand for immunity, and they have sponsoring the podcast this week. Winter bugs are just the worst. And if you get ill as the parent, it is so challenging. And it's probably even harder seeing little ones unwell. So it's important to keep your family's

immune system healthy. Sambacol immunity supplements are packed with natural black elderberries

and vitamin C, which contribute to the normal function of the immune system. And

Sanbacal supplements are available in delicious formats, including liquids and gummies for both children and us the adults.

So important.

And I mean, I never, my mother worked and she always complained about work.

1:20.6

But then she didn't retire until she was like 75 because she loved her work.

1:23.9

But she felt like she had to say to me that she didn't like it because she was working so

much. That's why for me, like I have two boys. I try to take them everywhere so they can see me.

1:34.5

And I don't walk out the door. I'm like, I'm so sorry I have to go on this trip. You know, I explain

1:38.6

why I have to go to the trip. Because it's the same. I don't want to create that same pattern that I grew up with. But you have to be

1:46.1

intentional. And this is why I think again, this moment is so powerful is you have to give people the

1:52.1

space to take a minute and examine how they were raised and how they're raising their children

1:57.5

and what it means for themselves. And again, I think that's why this is why I'm so powerful because I don't think we imagined

2:03.2

another way.

2:04.7

And it's also why so much of what we've been taught is so toxic.
