Welcome to another episode of Lurie Breaks It Down, a podcast where we dig deeply to connect the dots on the issues that shape our world.

I'm Lurie Daniel Favors, author, activist, attorney, and the host of the Lurie Daniel Favors show on Sirius XM's Urban View, Channel 126. If you like what you're about to hear, go ahead and give us five stars and then tell everybody that you know. And if you don't like it, just, child, keep it to yourself and pray our strength. Okay, thank you so much. Also, don't forget to check out my YouTube page, Lurie Daniel Favor's Media, where you should subscribe, like, and share, because then you'll get notified when I post videos from my show, which I do just about every single day and when I go live with my YouTube audience. Before we get to any of the heavy work and the heavy conversation and the heavy news,

0:54.4

we like to make sure that we have curated a set of emotions that are going to allow us to

0:59.6

approach both the challenges we're facing as individuals and the challenges we face as a collective

1:04.8

that will allow us to approach those challenges with a spirit of joy, gratitude, and

1:10.2

appreciation. Now, these emotions,

1:12.8

joy, gratitude, and appreciation tend to be very important not just because they feel good,

1:17.0

but because our lived experience has indicated to us and the science has confirmed that, for example,

1:23.6

when you are rooted in gratitude, you cannot also be trapped by fear. When you are rooted in joy and

1:29.1

appreciation, it's really hard to get stuck in loneliness and depression. So we are very intentional

1:34.7

here. And so we have created a ritual that allows us to intentionally tap into those emotions

1:40.6

before we do the heavy lifting. The ritual is pretty simple. So simple. In fact,

1:44.8

it goes a little something like this. In just a minute, you're going to hear music. That music is

1:50.6

going to be an invitation to you to join the rest of us because when we hear it, we are going to

1:54.8

collectively begin taking the slowest, the deepest and most lung capacity expanding,

1:59.7

joyful heart invigorating, troubled mind cleansing,

2:02.1

and weary soul uplifting,

2:03.9

the most amazingly juicy breath.

2:06.1

As we kick off our most important segment of every single day,

2:09.8

it is time for our moment of gratitude.

2:12.3

Thank you. I'm going to

2:20.3

The Every day, folks, every day we got to do it and every day it matters.
