Welcome to another episode of Lurie Breaks It Down, a podcast where we dig deeply to connect the dots on the issues that shape our world.

I'm Lurie Daniel Favors, author, activist, attorney, and the host of the Lurie Daniel Favors show on Sirius XM's Urban View, Channel 126. If you like what you're about to hear, go ahead and give us five stars and then tell everybody that you know. And if you don't like it, just, child, keep it to yourself and pray our strength. Okay? Thank you so much. Also, don't forget to check out my YouTube page, Lurie Daniel Favor's Media, where you should subscribe, like, and share, because then you'll get notified when I post videos from my show, which I do just about every single day and when I go live with my YouTube audience. We got a lot to get to today, but typically our news is kind of heavy because Black

Talklandia is like that. And this is Black Talklandia, again, is where we embody the best

0:59.9

in the Black Talk Radio tradition. And those are difficult conversations. Black Talk Radio is not

1:04.6

a light and fluffy place when it comes to dealing with the issues of race and gender and

1:09.4

culture, identity, politics, and the law.

1:11.2

But we have these conversations every day because we are able to use them as fuel to empower us to make better decisions.

1:18.7

And those better decisions help us to then become better people.

1:21.6

And as we're becoming better people and we're not just focused on ourselves, but we're also extending that betterness and that goodness to others,

1:28.3

and we are able to build better communities. And ultimately, the sum of all of that work then produces a better world.

1:35.6

And that is how talk empowers and becomes action for us. But again, it's not the easiest of things to do to sit in the space of intense dialogue and and you know diagnosing conversations and issues

1:45.9

and news every day so we want to make sure that energetically we are as positively positioned

1:50.7

as we possibly can be before we do that work and that matters because when we are rooted

1:56.0

in positive emotions like joy and gratitude and appreciation we cannot be trapped by fear loneliness and depression

2:02.5

that's pretty important so in just a minute you're going to hear some music the music is part of our

2:07.6

ritual called a moment of gratitude and the ritual is pretty simple it is so simple in fact it goes a little

2:12.5

something like a yes in just a minute you're going to hear music. And again, that music will be an

2:18.2

invitation to you. And the invitation is one that says, please join the rest of us, because when we

2:22.1

hear the music, we are going to collectively begin taking the slowest, deepest, most lung capacity

2:27.2

expanding, most joyful heart invigorating, most troubled mind cleansing and weary soul, uplifting the most

2:32.8

amazingly juicy breath as we kick off the most important segment of every single day on this show it is time for our moment of gratitude Food. Every day we got to do it because every day you are given another opportunity to show up more powerfully for yourself or to shrink, right?

3:17.0

You're never going to stay static in life. We are either advancing or we're being pushed back.
