I'm Lurie Daniel Favors, author, activist, attorney, and the host of the Lurie Daniel Favors show on Sirius XM's Urban View, Channel 126. If you like what you're about to hear, go ahead and give us five stars and then tell everybody that you know. And if you don't like it, just, child, keep it to yourself and pray our strength. Okay? Thank you so much.

Also, don't forget to check out my YouTube page, Lurie Daniel Favor's Media, where you should subscribe, like, and share because then you'll get notified when I post videos from my show, which I do just about every single day and when I go live with my YouTube audience. Lots we got to get to today. And of course, we have a ritual on this show to help us get to everything we got to get to with as much joy, gratitude and appreciation as possible. That ritual is called a moment of gratitude. And it's necessary because when you're doing the work of Black Talk Landia, a child is heavy to be a little depressing and sad if you don't handle it carefully. So that's why we do a lot to make sure that we are as happy and as joyous as we possibly can be before we get to the substantive work. So this ritual is pretty simple. It is so simple. In fact, it goes a little something like this. In just a minute, you're going to hear music. The music's going to be an invitation to you to join the rest of us because we are going to, when we hear it, collectively begin taking the slowest, the deepest, the most lung capacity expanding, joyful heart, invigorate,

and troubled mind cleansing, and weary soul uplifting. It's going to be the most amazingly juicy

breath that we've ever taken with a couple million people at once. As we kick off our most

1:41.4

important segment of every single day, it is time for our moment of gratitude. Every day, folks, we got to do it.

2:15.6

Every day, folks, we got to do it.

2:15.6

Every day it matters.

And it's not just for our emotional health. It's not just for our spiritual health. It's also for our mental health. I want today to begin a conversation about attitude and perspective. And this is not a new topic for us. We've dealt with attitude and perspective before. And we've dealt with this notion that we have the ability to make choices, right?

2:34.2

We've dealt with the notion not only that we can make choices, but that even in the

2:37.9

moments where we are experiencing circumstances beyond the realm of our choosing, that even in

2:43.5

those environments, we still have the ability to make choices, right? And choices are really

2:48.8

important because when you are recognizing the power of your choice, you recognize the power of your agency. And agency matters because if you are lacking an agency, if you are lacking in the ability to sort of choose to make a different set of options or choose to go in a different direction, Lacking an agency is one of the most debilitating

and disempowering positions I can imagine being in. It's absolutely tragic to be in a position

3:12.7

where you don't have the capacity to choose. And so I want to share with you this quote from

3:18.1

Human Revolution, Volume 6. I've shared with you all about these books before. And this is in

3:22.8

the chapter known as transition.

3:25.0

And the quote says the following, quote, as long as we are human, we are bound to make mistakes.

3:31.1

We all fall prey to flawed beliefs and views.

3:35.4

What separates a forward-looking person from an intransigent one, a virtuous person from a malevolent one,

3:43.0

however, is whether one can candidly admit to one's mistakes and take bold steps to redress

them. It's an important element. Everybody is going to make mistakes. That's the end of the quote.
