Summary

Support Pushback at Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/aaronmate Rather than prioritize accountability for US intelligence officials' failure to prevent the pro-Trump mob attack on the Capitol, the incident is instead being used to expand the national security state's powers. Max Blumenthal, who witnessed the Capitol mob and reported on a key participant, discusses his coverage of the attack and the dangers of a militarized, myopic response. Guest: Max Blumenthal, editor of The Grayzone and author of several books including his latest, "The Management of Savagery."

the Management of Savagery. Max, welcome to pushback. Great to be here, Aaron. You have been on the ground

0:17.3

covering the Stop the Steel riot and its aftermath.

0:21.6

You were there that day on January 6th.

0:24.6

You've also been covering what the response has been, including this military lockdown of the Capitol.

0:30.6

Just talk to us first about your impressions about what you're seeing on the streets of DC right now and the aftermath of the riot?

0:38.3

Yeah, I've been on the ground because I pretty much live there.

1:37.0

fencing with thousands of National Guard troops behind them milling around

1:41.3

aimlessly with lethal weapons which they were authorized to possess

1:46.6

inside DC and to use. That's the red zone. The red zone is forbidden to all non-official traffic,

1:55.1

including foot traffic. And I was walking in the green zone, which is an area where local

2:00.7

residents can walk, businesses can be open,

2:03.7

but vehicle traffic is essentially forbidden except for official vehicles which are swept for weapons.

2:09.6

And obviously the red zone is closer to the public building, the federal buildings, the

2:15.6

national mall where the inaugural ceremony is to be held.
