Welcome to a brand new installment of Scott Ziegler Slices.

This season is called Mix Tate Volume 1, Dark Tales inspired by songs.

These are short stories that popped into my head while listening to music.

Now, I get story ideas all the time, but especially when listening to tunes.

The mixtape stories are not literal interpretations of the songs.

They're not an adaptation of the song.

Some of these stories might dive deep into the lyrics and reflect them.

Others might have nothing in common with the story other than the title.

Sometimes the story fits the song's mood.

Sometimes it doesn't.

In all cases, I take the lyrics at face value.

I usually don't know the story behind the song,

and frankly, I don't really care,

because these stories are about my take on what I hear,

not an homage or honorarium to the songwriters.

You never know what you're going to get with this series.
