So I chose this book because my daughter has wanted me to try Sanderson.

Plus, I'd been asking around about fantasy books with good magical systems, and this came recommended, meaning that I absolutely love Lord of the Rings, but I'm also never quite sure what Gandalf can do.

Or why, like, at one moment, he's fending off wraiths on dragons with a massive magic beam of light, but then two minutes later, he's stumbling around fighting a single orc with his stick.

For me, this story delivered on that, this cool magical system. I did feel that the story in general dragged in places, but eventually my

patience was rewarded, which is the opposite of how Dave feels about most of the classics.
