And any given time, millions of people across the world are victims of human trafficking.

Traffickers pray on adults and children of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities in

big cities and small towns and everywhere in between.

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

So today, we want to tell you about a young woman who is chasing her dreams when she

fell victim to a violent sex trafficking ring in Florida and then disappeared.

There is almost no media coverage on this case, and because of the secretive nature of trafficking,

lots of the details are murky.

We're actually only able to tell her story thanks to her family and a private investigator

named Trent Steele from the Anti-Predator Project, which is a nonprofit that works to find

missing people and human trafficking victims across the country.

He's worked with Trent before, and he's actually the one who brought this case to our attention.

This is the story of Natanali Perez.

It's around 2am on February 14, 2012, when a man named Roberto Jr. gets a frantic phone

call.

It's from his cousin, 19-year-old Natanali Perez.

Natanali, or Nadi, as everyone calls her, is really upset.

She tells him that she's just been assaulted and she needs him to come pick her up at this

luxury hotel in downtown Miami, not far from his apartment.

Now as unexpected as this middle of the night call is, it's actually a call that Roberto

Jr. had been waiting for, because lately, the whole family had been worried about Nadi.
