In February of 1979, a small fishing boat was off the coast of Maui when a massive storm

quickly approached. Despite the efforts of the Coast Guard and the island's residents,

the boat was thought to have been lost in the storm. However, a decade later, thousands of miles

away, the boat was discovered, and what was found with it was far more horrifying and mysterious

than anyone could have imagined. As always, viewer discretion is advised.

Ralph Malia Kinney woke up to an absolutely perfect Hawaiian morning on February 11th, 1979.

It was Sunday, but the 27-year-old had to head directly to a construction job to do some work with his friend and co-worker Pat Wozner.

After a quick bite, Ralph headed out the door and noticed how gorgeous the day was.

It was a comfortable, 70 degrees, or 21 Celsius that morning without a cloud in the sky, and

it was less windy than typical in the small town of Hana on the northeastern coast of Maui.

Ralph then got into his truck and started his short commute through the streets of the town

often referred to as the last Hawaiian place for its undeveloped surroundings and isolation. There's one road in and out of Hana

Highway, and the highway itself is a bit of an obstacle. With more than 50 miles of twisting,

turning road, the Hana Highway used to be so rough on vehicles that rental car companies

used to prohibit driving it.

At the same time, though, it's some of the most beautiful driving in the world as it passes

stunning coastlines, thick rainforest, and several waterfalls.

And for a little more context on how isolated Hana truly is, it's literally near nothing.

The closest shopping center is 52 miles away, and the only gas pump in town during the late 1970s

was at a general store. Long ago, Hanna was a sugar plantation, and about 100 of the old

plantation-style homes built back then were occupied by some of Hanna's few hundred residents.
