We've done a fair and fairly comprehensive job of mapping the coastlands of the continents,

of surveying even the most deserted areas of vastness,

finding resources like oil, natural gas, water, and precious minerals.

We've dug very deep holes, though still none deep enough to breach the

superficial layer of crust that covers the globe.

We've learned much about the movement of the tectonic plates.
