Welcome to The Lost Debate, a show for Politically Ecclectics. I'm Robbie Gupta. And in a little bit, we're going to hear from Laura K. Field, who wrote the book Furious Minds, the making of the MAGA New Right, which is a book all about the intellectuals behind the rise of MAGA. And so we'll get there. But obviously, a lot has happened over the course of the past week. And I'd love to empty my notebook a little bit on some of these items.

And I really can't do full justice to such deep, important and breaking topics.

But I'll touch on a few of them.

Let's start with what happened in Minnesota.

I'm not going to go through everything as it relates to that shooting. I was actually on air recording Majority 54 with Jason Kander last week when the video broke. And so I reacted last week on that show and we'll be talking more about it today with Harry Littman. So you can, if you want like a full analysis, you can go there.

And I made a larger point about where we are as a society.

So you could read that.

I also think that Isaac Saul, you know, longtime guest on this

podcast, Entangle has, I think, the best summary and analysis of the video, the incident,

the aftermath. And you could read that take there. I'm almost 100% in agreement with Isaac on the way he sees things.

And he was asked recently in a follow-up question to his original post, a listener or a reader of

his newsletter said, does new video evidence like the body cam footage change how you feel about

the Minnesota ice shooting.

And I'll quote Isaac here at length. He said, it does not. In fact, when our team first watched the footage, the officer took with his phone. Our general reaction was, this will not change anyone's mind. The impression I had last week was that this shooting was sadly predictable and entirely preventable. The officer

broke guidelines by walking in front of Rennie Good's vehicle. He broke guidelines when he fired

at her vehicle and depending on the case is argued in court, likely broke the law as well.

The only dissent we had within our staff was over the likelihood about whether Ross would be

convicted. From the newest video, I learned two new

things. First, Ross seemed to have a relatively civil exchange with Good before he shot her.

This to me provided more evidence. She was never a threat and didn't want to hurt them. She literally

says, I'm not mad at you, which is not exactly a threatening demeanor. However, Ross also seemed
