In the early hours of Saturday morning,

Democratic state politician Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot dead at their home in the

city of Champlain. A short time earlier and just a few kilometers away, Democratic state lawmaker

John Hoffman and his wife were shot by the same gunman and left gravely injured.

Speaking at a news conference, Minnesota Governor Tim Walts said the attack seemed to be an act
