Katie Proctor. Katie lives with her husband and two kids in Texas. She was an elementary school teacher for eight years before deciding to stay home with her kids and write middle grade books.

Hi Katie thanks for having me

It's so fun to get to talk to somebody

who is not just somebody that I'm starstruck by a published author because that's how I feel about most authors,

but somebody that I genuinely, you know, have spent hours talking to and care about and love.

So I'm glad to have you here.

I'm glad to be here. Thanks so much.

Okay, Katie. First, let's get into your novel. Tell us a little bit about my storied year.

I could not put it down. I loved it so much. So help us

avoid spoilers and tell our listeners how you would describe it. So my story year

follows Dragon Stewart and he's a seventh grader. He's dyslexic. He has some stuff going on at home. His mom is ill. His sister's a little bit strange. We're not real sure what happened to his father, there was an uncle figure,

there's also a toddler that he loves, who's like a cousin. And so he's kind of got a lot of things

going on. There's a bully at his school that is the worst

and is awful.

And so he's got a lot to deal with.

But he has some really good friends

and he has a really good teacher. And it's kind of the beginning of a new year

when our story starts and we find out that even though Dragon has a hard time reading and
