Every once in a while, we love to drop a full episode sample of the kind of content you can get over on Patreon, and this month we are sharing our newest offering: Trope Thursday with Kaytee and Bunmi. In this debut episode, we are exploring "Debut Novels That Blew Us Away!" Here's what you'll find inside:
Welcome, friends! This month, we are debuting a new patron bonus that I hope you will LOVE! Trope Thursday with Kaytee and Bunmi was a brainchild for about 4 months before this debut, and I hope you can tell the time and attention that went into it. Every month, we will focus on a "trope of the month" and have regular segments that you'll come to know and love. This episode is supposed to be INTERACTIVE. When you've listened, come tell us about your favorite debut novels! Or ask Bumni questions! Or tell us what trope you'd like us to explore! All of that is great fodder for future episodes - although we have roughly 4 years worth of ideas right now, ha!
This inaugural episode is a bit longer than they will normally be, but that's because I want to introduce you to and let you get to know Bunmi Ishola and how this new episode came to be!

| 0:00.0 | Hey, bookish friends, it is the third Thursday of the month, and we've just started a new |
| 0:20.4 | season of the podcast, which means it's time for a new patron bonus that I've affectionately |
| 0:24.7 | termed TROPE Thursdays with Katie and Boomi. This month, the first time we roll this out, I am so |
| 0:30.1 | excited to introduce you to Boomi Ashola, who is a longtime insider in the publishing industry, |
| 0:35.5 | and will bring an element of sparkle and behind the scenes that I cannot provide and that you cannot |
| 0:40.1 | get anywhere else. Boomi, welcome to Currently Reading Friend. Thank you, Katie, and I'm also laughing |
| 0:46.1 | because a long time is something that we argue about a little bit, because I've been in publishing |
| 0:50.4 | for, I guess, four, almost five years, which I love, and before that, I obviously was an avid reader |
| 0:55.0 | and cared about books, worked in a bookstore. My first job was at a bookstore, so I guess I could say |
| 0:59.1 | long term, but I sometimes feel silly about that. Hey, people call us long term podcasters now, |
| 1:04.8 | and we just finished our fourth year, so I think that makes you a long time expert in the publishing |
| 1:11.0 | industry. That's what I'm going to call you from now on. You're the expert. Fair enough. When I taught, |
| 1:14.2 | I was pretty much, I was a veteran in my 30 year, and I was like, how is this possible? But I was, |
| 1:18.2 | so in my school, I was the veteran, so I'll take it. See? Exactly. I love this. Okay, so because |
| 1:23.1 | this is our first month doing this, I want to take the top of the show here. We're going to have |
| 1:28.0 | a regular format, but this month, I want everybody to get a chance to get to know you. So first, |
| 1:33.4 | why don't you tell us a little bit about who you are, where you're from, and what you do, and why I |
| 1:37.6 | keep calling you a long time veteran of the publishing industry. All right, so I am Boomi Ashola. |
| 1:43.6 | First name is spelled B-U-N-M-I, but the N is silent because in your by the language that |
| 1:48.6 | my name is from, the U-N-N actually form a vowel together, and there's no equivalent for that in |
| 1:53.0 | English, obviously. So in English, just say it's silent, and that's the easiest way to go about that. |
| 1:57.6 | And I currently live in Washington State, like just outside of Portland, although I originally was |
