For me, astrology is obviously a family thing.

As I've said before, it's this ambient background noise that leaves its way into your life in important moments.

But it's not something that my family owns. It's a vague part of our identity, but not really the backbone of it.

So last year while we were researching the show, my producer, Mietra stumbled across this incredible story.

A friend told her that there was this woman in California who learned astrology from her mom, who learned it from her mom,

and it just kept going back for generations.

It's the type of thing you might hear about in India, but a lineage of American astrologers, I had never encountered such a thing.

So I asked me to make some calls, and before long, we were talking too.

Now, Jan and Monica are really close, and they're a lot alike. They both work in healthcare, Jan is a psychologist, Monica's a nurse,

they live near each other in Northern California, and when we get them on a video call, it's uncanny how similar their mannerisms are.

But it's astrology that really ties them together, and also sets them apart.
