Summary

Dawn O'Porter kicks off the Thanks A Million Mini Pods revisiting her ‘Thank You, Next’ - the lessons learnt from overcoming a chapter in life which at the time felt like a complete disaster but in hindsight she’s grateful for it!

Dawn O’Porter appeared on Thanks A Million ahead of the release of her sixth novel ‘So Lucky’ (2019) and looked back at the career she has forged, from acting to journalism, a wildly successful career in TV and now as a best-selling author. Dawn is married to actor Chris O’Dowd and lives in LA with their two children. But what is her Thank you, Next…

Now, while we're waiting for Series 4 and it is a common and there are a truckload in new thank

0:11.9

yous, I thought that we could revisit the thank you next chapter of some of our guests' lives

0:17.4

to remind us that we've got this. This is one of my favourite questions from the podcast

0:23.3

because it's all about silver linings. It's usually touching on a period in people's lives

0:27.9

that has been and gone, which at the time felt like a complete disaster. But in hindsight,

0:33.1

they are grateful for them.

0:45.1

Sometimes it's the big old wallops figuratively speaking that kind of teach us the greatest lessons that we think, oh wow, that was a game changer for me. It was hideous at the time.

0:51.5

But look at me now. Look at me now, yeah. I imagine this past year might be a

1:00.1

thank you next for quite a few people. I feel like it's all gone to shit in a handcart, but actually

1:05.6

it's fine and we'll get through it. This week to kick us off, our thank you next is from the wonderful Dono Porter.

1:14.8

She's always an absolute delight to talk to.

1:17.2

She's joyfully, hopelessly, honest.

1:23.2

You should listen to the whole episode.

1:24.9

I don't know how we cut her down, to be honest.

1:27.1

She talks about stuffing her cat, who has subsequently died.

1:30.6

Does that feel insensitive?

1:31.7

Maybe, but she did say she'd put him on the mantelpiece.

1:34.2

Myself and Dawn sat down ahead of the release of her sixth novel,

1:38.0

So Lucky, which, by the way, is fab, and I believe I'm out in paperback right now.

1:42.1

Anyway, we were looking at her career. She's gone in all

1:45.1

directions. She started out acting, moved into journalism, obviously did a lot of telly and is now
