2022. On today's episode of the show, we're going to gather around the virtual water cooler

and talk about what we've been up to. My name is Ben Pearson. I'm an editor at slash film

at slash film.com and I'm joined on today's episode by slash film staff writer Ryan Scott.

Hey everyone how's it going? All right Ryan let's get right into it and just we haven't really been doing much or reading much

let's talk a little bit about what we've been watching. I watched a couple

things recently. I saw this movie called The Causeway, which is now out on Apple TV Plus. It's the new movie that

stars Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry. She

plays a US soldier who experiences this traumatic brain injury and basically like

loses like temporarily loses the ability,

her like, motor skills and things like that

during a tour in Afghanistan

and she comes back to her hometown in Louisiana and has to grapple with the past that she left behind and the relationships and family challenges and struggles that she left behind there and she meets up with Brian Taggard Henry's character who plays this mechanic in this town and they strike up a friendship and it's a really it's the kind of movie Ryan that reminds me of like stuff that would have been completely run in the

middle like you expect this as a movie goer to see movies like this in theaters in

1994 or something with just like two powerhouse performers doing really really solid work.

It's a solid movie and it's the kind of thing that's just like relegated to streaming now.

And I'm thankful that these movies are still getting made and they still exist.

But it's just, it's just, it's, watching this, it really felt like a throwback to the type of thing that you don't really see in movie theaters too

often.

Yeah, and it feels like Apple TV Plus has been making a lot of those movies, but what bums me out is like they're making a lot of

movies I would totally watch but I'm not fucking subscribing to another streaming service.

Yeah like I'm missing all of these movies like I didn't see Finch which looked really good I didn't see what
