a simple project.

Pharaohs could suffer many challenges to their power, both in life and in death.

There were frequent challenges to royal authority throughout the period of phironic history.

There were civil wars and power struggles,

and yes, even assassinations.

So how did a king get chosen,

and what was the process for putting them in power? Well, let's find out. Choosing a new king was either incredibly simple or bafflingly complex.

Nine times out of ten it was straightforward.

If the king who had just died had a son, that son became the next heir.

But what if there was no son, or worse?

What if there were two sons with an equal claim to power?

What happened then?

Well, if there was no son, power went to whichever man was able to gain marriage

to the most prominent surviving princess or queen.
