Welcome to the Mantox mini episode. I'm Connor Beaton, the founder of Man Talks. And on today's

0:05.5

mini episode, we are going to talk about managing anxiety. Now, this is any form of anxiety. So I'm going to

0:12.0

talk about today is really any form of anxiety, whether you have performance-based anxiety,

0:17.5

whether you have stage anxiety or presentation anxiety. And I really want to break down

0:23.7

for me, from the work that I've done with a lot of people who experience this, whether it's in

0:29.5

the bedroom or in the boardroom, there are really two sort of types of anxieties. There's the type of

0:34.9

anxiety that seems to linger and is sort of always there.

0:39.1

It's always there like over your shoulder and kind of like talking in your ear and talking smack.

0:45.6

It's kind of like that guy in the break room or that woman in the break room where as soon as you

0:50.2

walk in, you know, to sit down and have lunch, they seem to like start chomping, open mouth, like they're chewing open mouth right behind you. And like they sit down next to you and they start talking to you on your lunch break and they won't seem to go away even though like you're just trying to eat your food and they're not picking up on the social cues that you actually just wants them alone time. You don't actually want them to be talking

1:10.8

to you right now. But they keep talking anyway. And they won't seem to go away. And even when you're like, yeah, that's great. Thanks so much. I actually just, I would really love to like eat my food right now. And they're like, oh, yeah, yeah, it looks like some great food. And they keep talking to you. And you're like, how are you not picking up on the fact that I want to go a rate right now, but they seem to stay and in fact they get more obnoxious somehow?

1:32.7

That's what lingering anxiety is like, where it just seems to be ever present. It seems to be

1:39.4

constantly there over your shoulder, talking about what ifss creating situations on fuster-based worries

1:47.0

and is just sort of this like icing to your thought process you know not the best icing either

1:55.6

the second type of anxiety that I see a lot of people deal with is situational anxiety. Now,

2:01.3

situational anxiety is more about when you are in a specific environment or set of circumstances,

2:07.1

you experience a heightened level of anxiety that you ultimately and usually normally wouldn't

2:13.9

face. And so understanding which one you usually deal with is extremely important.

2:19.2

Now, just to be clear, anxieties are always future-based. They are always, always, always,

2:25.6

future-based. They're always something that is a concern or a worry or an apprehension

2:32.4

about something that could potentially go wrong in the future.

2:36.2

They're never about a past circumstance. We don't experience an anxiety about past circumstances.
