Today's topic is favorite family games. I love this topic because obviously in this age of

screens, we could all use something off screen. And over the years, I've especially been tuned

to finding games that are fun for the adults too, because I have

suffered my way through plenty of kids games that I have found boring and annoying, and I've also

never been a play on the floor with toys type of parent. Most of my play happens with my kids in the

kitchen, so old-fashioned games are a way to be together and help me get out of my head, too.

I'm going to link up in the notes a great list of crowd sourced recommendations and some of my personal recommendations

that I posted at my original blog, Boston Mommas.com, but today I'm going to just focus on my

personal favorites. Let's jump in. I'm going to do this in age recommendation order. And for the

age five plus crowd, since my kids are six and a half years apart, when Vi was very little,

it was very challenging to find games that were fun for everyone. And we had a lot of fun with

quirkle. It's all about building off of colors and shapes and matching, so there's no

reading required. I have a few picks for the eight plus crowd. One is a game called Dragonwood.

It weaves mythical creatures. Yes, there's a magical unicorn. An adventure into a game that

ultimately gives your kids fun math and pattern recognition practice.
