August, but here we are, and I'm delighted to share five microdelights from this month.

The first two are related to food, and the first is King Arthur's chocolate caramel shortbread

bars. So when it comes to baking for a crowd,

I am a fan of anything that can be made in a 9 by 13 pan. In fact, part of what led me to this

recipe was that I was looking explicitly for 9 by 13 bar recipes. Now, on this show,

I have shared before how I am a huge fan of King Arthur recipes, and this

was another great one. It involves three components, a shortbread layer, a caramel layer,

which is different from traditional caramel in that it is made with condensed milk. So in my opinion,

it was actually a little easier to make. And then finally, a chocolate glaze.

I found the steps to be very simple. And the only thing I did that was different for this

recipe is I ended up making it a day before, leaving it in the fridge, and then cutting the

bars with a hot knife, which I would run under hot water and then dry. And this worked great.
