Summary

Like many of the concepts we discuss on Spartan MIND, self-doubt is one that we can all relate to because we ALL have elements of self-doubt. Some of us struggle with more self-doubt than others but we can all use similar strategies to work through the self-doubt. Implementing an internal dialogue that observes where the self-doubt may be coming from can be a useful tactic. Evaluating the intensity of the self-doubt and knowing that, to some degree, we all experience a little can also give you some perspective.

LESSONS: Self-doubt is part of the human experience. Building resilience to self-doubt is your best weapon. Try asking yourself, “Where is this self-doubt coming from” to help you gain more self-awareness. Work on reality testing to help you close the gap on how you feel vs. reality. Use positive affirmations and optimism to assist in moving you through it. Today we're talking about battling self-doubt. Now first of all let's just be clear we all have

a little bit of self-doubt. Yes there are some of us that have lots of self-doubt

and feel really burdened by it and others that maybe you know just a

little bit here or there and then there's everybody in between right but if you're

out there thinking like oh this is such a me episode because I'd struggle with

self doubt but I'm probably the only one.

No I'm creating this episode actually because I get a lot of comments about self-doubt.

How do I get through it? How do I get over it? you know, that kind of thing.

So that's why we're talking about it today.

Okay, so one of the things that's really important

in battling self-doubt that I think we need to understand

is that first, you have to observe and recognize and understand the self-doubt.

Now there are a lot of people out there who might say well just ignore it right

and then you'll get over it. It really does not work that way. I promise you in

ten years of practices as a psychologist I can say that I have never had anybody just

get over self-doubt. The best way actually to move through self-doubt and to battle self-doubt

is to observe and recognize it. Think about it. If it's like an opponent on the battlefield,

you don't necessarily just ignore them to fight them, right?

You actually see them, you see what weapons they have, you observe them, and then you kill
