I'm so happy to be back here at the Newport Beach TV Festival

this year

to speak with the recipient of its Artists of Distinction Award. She is a writer, director,

producer, and actress who has proven to be one of the most gifted and influential creative

voices of her generation. At just 24, she became a writer for and an actress on NBC's The Office.

She was the only woman in the writer's room at that time and ultimately penned more episodes

than any other writer over the course of her eight seasons with the show, during which she also became

the first woman of color to be nominated in any writing category at the Emmys.

She subsequently created and starred in the Mindy Project, which ran on Fox and then Hulu.

She co-created Netflix's Never Have I Ever, HBO Max is The Sex Lives of College Girls, and Netflix's Running Point.

And most recently, she created Hulu's not suitable for work,

which, by the way, is as of yesterday, I believe, the number one show on Hulu.
