Hey, crime writers fans.

Some sad news to kick off the show.

Laura Bricker's beloved cat, Stampy, who was the inspiration for our cat of the week's

segment passed away this week.

If you follow us on social media, you might know that he ate a petal from a lily, which

was in a bouquet of flowers in Laura's house.

And as it turns out, lilies are very toxic to cats.

So PSA, keep your lilies away from your cats.

Or just don't bring lilies in the house if you have cats.

Second, I want to do a little call out.

Laura got Stampy from an organization called Cats First in Newfields, New Hampshire.

It's a grassroots rescue, which deals with stray, feral, or abandoned cats.

Once they trap, fix, and then vaccinate and re-release the moms, they work to find

homes for feral kittens, which is how Stampy came into Laura's life.

Stampy was found in a rural New Hampshire trailer park where a man thought some kittens

were in a shed behind a trailer.

Things out those kittens were hiding under a wooden pallet.

The man would lift the pallet and Betsy, who runs Cats First, would reach it and grab

the kittens by their tails to get them out one by one.

When Laura and her family came to look for a kitten, Betsy told them she had an orange

male, known for being great family cats, and wanted him to go to someone she knew.

She had a feeling it was going to be a good one, she said.
