Summary

https://Art2Life.com - The perception of our art can be different than how we see it. After all, we don’t just make art for ourselves. We make it for others too. And the viewers of our art bring their own perspectives to the canvas. If we’re too focused on authenticity and making personal work, we can lose sight of the objectivity that makes our work universal. Join me as I take a deep dive into the topic of objectivity. We’ll look at what it is, why it's important, what happens when we don't have it, how to keep it, and how to get it back. Don’t miss this one!

We need our emotions so much in the work and we need our objectivity. And when we can marry those two things,

0:08.0

we have a shot in making something that not only moves us, but can move and change the world.

0:20.0

Hey everyone, welcome back to the Art to Life podcast. Today I want to talk about objectivity,

0:27.0

what it is, why it's important, what happens when you don't have it, and how to keep it,

0:33.3

how to get it back. In art making, art making is not just about us.

0:38.3

It's about them also.

0:40.3

It's about the viewers.

0:42.3

And how our artists perceive sometimes is different than how we feel about it.

0:48.3

And there's this interesting play between personal and the rest of the world. And we're so focused on authenticity and making our work personal,

0:59.0

but sometimes we can lose sight, actually,

1:02.0

when we become so focused on our work to what actually is going on with it,

1:07.0

and that we're not seeing it objectively.

1:10.0

Objectivity and subjectivity are two ways of

1:12.9

perceiving. Subjective is more personal, it's more emotional. It's how we feel about a thing.

1:20.5

We know instantly how we feel about something. And often we can feel so strongly about something

1:25.7

and that can become the way we experience it.

1:28.3

But then sometimes if we can take a moment or try to rise above that and outside of that and think of,

1:36.3

well, actually, what is this that I'm experiencing without my biases, without my filters on, what is this actually, objectively?

1:47.6

What's the truth? What's the fact of what I'm looking at?

2:05.4
