Summary

Tom Campbell began researching states of consciousness with Bob Monroe (Journeys Out Of The Body, Far Journeys, and The Ultimate Journey) at Monroe Laboratories in the early 1970s where he and a few others were instrumental in getting Monroe’s laboratory for the study of consciousness up and running. These early drug-free consciousness pioneers helped design experiments, developed the technology for creating specific altered states, and were the main subjects of study (guinea pigs) all at the same time. Campbell has been experimenting with, and exploring the subjective and objective mind ever since. For the past thirty years, Campbell has been focused on scientifically exploring the properties, boundaries, and abilities of consciousness. During that same time period, he has excelled as a working scientist, a professional physicist dedicated to pushing back the frontiers of cutting edge technology, large-system simulation, technology development and integration, and complex system vulnerability and risk analysis. Presently, and for the past 20 years, he has been at the heart of developing US missile defense systems. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

If you listen to this, which you do because you are, then you may know this.

But the era of quantum holographic virtual weirdness is upon us.

0:47.2

And I am not entirely sure what that means,

0:51.1

but I am hugely fascinated by it and I do follow the news and I try to absorb as much information on it as a dummy like me can.

And over the past couple of years, the idea that we may be living in a universe that has

properties that sound a whole lot like a simulation has really been gaining steam.

Some people get really uncomfortable with this idea,

1:18.4

but for me, the higher the resolution gets

1:21.9

on the universe's mysteries, the more excited I get,

1:25.0

and what bigger mystery is there than the nature of the fabric of reality, even better,

1:32.0

how it all relates to consciousness.

1:37.6

From a scientific standpoint, this stuff is most definitely controversial,

1:43.0

especially when you start trying to take

1:45.0

consciousness and quantum physics

1:48.0

and trying to connect them somehow, I get that.

And I think it's because it's a sort of philosopher's stone, right?

1:53.8

It's this mercurial merging agent that marries two worlds.

1:58.6

It marries the world of objective material-based science and subjective consciousness.

2:06.0

And for a lot of scientists, that's as uncosure as it gets.
