Now administering the third eye drops. Welcome back to the Mind Meld, my friends. It is always my pleasure to play in the

Wonder Sauce with you. And speaking of play, typically, we associate it with a kind of frivolity or time wasting or descending into some kind of fantasy,

but there is a deeper dimension to play as well, as we're actually going

to largely wrap about in this mind melt, and that is play has surprisingly profound roles in evolution and

innovation in general I think and personally speaking, there is this phenomenon.

I've noticed numerous times where you're in the throes of play

and suddenly it gives way to a kind of flow state, guess I would call it where suddenly it's almost

like your hands are off the wheel you're not playing not trying you're purely

lost in it practical, when a pod is really humming, I know for a fact that neither I nor my guest are really grooming our thoughts or even thinking that much.

We're just streaming in a playful exploratory deal logo,

say strange amalgam of adaptation and freestyling and reacting and sometimes that yields surprising

flavors of novelty. You find things wiggling off your vocal cords that you've never even

considered before yet there you are saying them. That kind of

improvisation doesn't come unless you play. And I think it's that way with any discipline, you know, if you put in the reps and you get yourself into a playful exploratory flow regularly, you are opening a portal of potential

for the weird, the magical, and the exceptional to peak through in a bit of mythopoeetic prognostication.

I think that might be one of the primary ways the sort of archetypal trickster energy flows into the world as well and

there's going to be a lot more on that musing within the mind meld too. And of course we're just sniffing at the epidermis of this fast moving

idea-packed mind meld with my man Michael Garfield. If you've heard him on the pod before, you know he is a

stupendously well-read fellow. He's got a one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary sort of fractal perspective.

He's able to knit knowledge and novelty together in a way that very few can.
