alchemists said. Yes, this is going to be a second week in a row of metaphorical

alchemy riffs because I've been checking out James Hillman's

incredible alchemy of psychology. I guess it's a series of talks and it's absolutely fabulous it is definitely

lassoing my wonder completely. Anyway, as the alchemists say, there comes a time when you have to

trap the vapors in your vessel. Hermetically seal it all in, all the heat, all the pressure, and just let the material boil and

royal and coagulate for an extended period of time together.

And psychologically, practically, what that means

is not just that you have to choose a recipe, you know, just commit to

something and really stew in it, which is where I thought he was going. It's

deeper than that. As Hillman says in this alchemical metaphor,

don't think of it even as you doing the cooking. Think of yourself as the thing being cooked, sealed in, and transmuted.

I thought that was absolutely brilliant. So in other words according to Hillman and these

alchemical texts he's referencing you've got to willingly cook yourself, surrender

to the heat, burn away, the doubts, the impurities, whatever they are.

Meaning several things. One, you've got to accept the hand you're dealt.

Whatever it is with its past, its traumas, its handicaps, its boons,

and just face forward. That's step one. Then you've got to choose some method by

which to do, however imperfect it is, however unsure you are, and completely give yourself over to it,

merge with it, become it. As East Forest says in this pod, at some point you've got to choose your
