The 19 1960 was a game-changing year for horror cinema.

The one-two hit of Michael Powell's peeping Tom and Alfred Hitchcock's psycho would go on to change

However, a French film released that same year about a murderous surgeon removing women's

faces in order to fix his disfigured daughter was equally as groundbreaking, shocking, and almost two ahead of its time.

The same could be said for a small independent film made two years later by first-time feature filmmaker

Herk Harvey. He made a psychological horror film about a woman being stalked by

spirits after a car crash. Both of these terrifying horror films were small sleeper

hits but would both eventually go on to become two of the most important and

influential horror films ever made.
