0:21.0	Last time we took a journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway.
0:25.2	Today we go back in time to the days of the invasion of Russia by Napoleon, discussing
0:31.6	the life and times of one of his biggest enemies, General Mikhail Kutuzov.
0:37.6	I'm going to go off script for a second here.
0:40.9	One of the reasons that this series is, I'm doing a five-part series on Kutuzov is not
0:46.8	just because of him and mind you, he was an incredible person in Russian history.
0:53.9	The reason I'm doing this is because this time period in Russian history sets things
1:00.6	up for the Russian Revolution of 1905 and 1917.
1:06.1	It is after Kutuzov defeats Napoleon that the Russian Army, especially the officers, were
1:13.0	able to see how the rest of Europe lived and then coming back home, seeing how bad
1:18.5	things really were in Russia and that things needed to be changed.
1:22.7	The next event would be the Decemberist Revolution after Zor Alexander, the first took over
1:29.2	or died and Nicholas the first took over and that was in 1825.
1:35.2	This sets up an incredible cascade of events in Russian history which is why I think it deserves
1:41.1	this five-part series, rotating around a single man Mikhail Kutuzov.
1:49.0	My primary source of information for this episode is the 2022 biography Kutuzov, a life
1:55.9	and war and peace by Alexander Mikhail Mikhail Mikhail Mikhail Mikhail Mikhail Kutuzov was
2:17.0	born in St. Petersburg on September 16th, 1745.
2:22.3	His father, Lieutenant General, Allarian, Matveevich Kutuzov, had served for over 30 years
2:28.8	with the court of engineers and had seen action against the Turks.
