Summary

Mike Johnson’s push to gut Medicare and Medicaid isn’t just a budgetary decision—it’s a declaration of priorities. You, my friend, are not on the priority list. Stripping health care from tens of millions to fund tax breaks for a shrinking circle of billionaires lays bare a political ideology rooted in cruelty and indifference. It’s a familiar trade: short-term power for long-term damage, justified by performative piety and cloaked in procedural gamesmanship. Mike Johnson is the reigning Enemy on the Enemies List because his ploy is so cynical, so callous, and so catastrophic to our way of life that it can only be described as evil. This episode is a double-decker! Rick takes your questions in the back half on everything from Elon Musk’s public implosion and Trump’s ongoing submission to Putin. Learn more about your ad choices. Hey, everybody. It's Rick Wilson. Welcome back to another edition of the Enemies List podcast. I'm your host, as always, and welcome to the Lincoln Square Network. We are delighted to have you with us today and I want to start out with this week's condemnation of one of the worst people in the political, national and perhaps galactic universe and really lay out why I think it is so important that we understand that Mike Johnson has taken upon himself to engage in what will cause more damage,

0:39.2

more destruction, more pain, more harm, more lives lost and lives cut short than any Speaker

0:47.0

of the House in history. Mike Johnson is pushing as hard as he can to do the one thing that

0:51.8

Donald Trump and Wall Street care about. And that is the big,

0:55.2

beautiful bill. It is a big, steaming, hideous shit show of a bill. But Mike Johnson is using

1:01.1

every trick in the book, including holding hearings at one in the morning, refusing to allow the

1:05.5

bill's particulars to be debated, refusing to allow the Democrats and Republicans to see what's in the bill, all of this

1:14.5

on the top line has a few big elements that we know of. The biggest is an $800 billion cut

1:20.8

to Medicare and Medicaid. In these days, $800 billion doesn't seem like as much money as it

1:25.1

used to. But what it means is about 45 million Americans are going to lose their ability to get

1:31.0

health care.

1:32.2

And while Josh Hawley and I rarely agree on much, he's not wrong.

1:36.0

Well, the right thing to do is not to cut Medicaid.

1:38.9

So I'm glad to hear him say that.

1:40.4

Manu, it ought to be just a basic foundational principle.

1:43.5

It is wrong to cut health care

1:45.1

for the working poor. That's what we're talking about here with Medicaid. Unlike the Fox News,

1:50.0

MAGA right-wing portrayal of folks on Medicare and Medicaid, the vast majority of them are

1:55.6

shirkers sitting home, eating bonbons, and watching their stories. The vast majority of them

2:00.2

are working poor. The vast majority of them live in their stories. The vast majority of them are working poor.

2:01.9

The vast majority of them live in red states. The vast majority of them are folks who work their

2:07.3

asses off and they can't get ahead in this country. They lack the education, the opportunity,
