Mike Huggins, founder of Transformation Yoga Project and author of Going OM: A CEO's Journey from a Prison Facility to Spiritual Tranquility, talks with J about the turn of events that took him from the top of a corporate ladder to federal prison, and how that experience was transformed into a new life purpose. They discuss his work in applying yoga practices for addiction recovery and trauma-related issues, the personal realities of incarceration, white privilege and diverse populations, and serving on a board together at Liberation Prison Yoga.

I am in a hotel room in Tokyo, Japan.

It is the middle of the night.

I already did the first day of the training, which went wonderfully. I'm super happy about that.

But I passed out early, like 7.30 p.m. and now it's the middle of the night. And it's kind of a good thing because I needed to make this happen.

But man, I'm kind of out of it, you guys. And I normally would not try to do one of these

when I'm in a state of mind that doesn't feel clear and cogent. So I'm going to keep it short. And it's a good

thing because today's talk with Mike is lengthy. And it's because I was really compelled by his

story. I had heard about him. Someone had emailed me about him in his book, Going Ome, a CEO's journey from a prison facility

to spiritual tranquility. I was very intrigued and intended to speak with him and just sort of

hadn't gotten to it. Then, as I think I've mentioned, I was asked to serve on the board

of Liberation Prison Yoga, and Mike is also on the board, so we kind of connected, and then

we made it

happen and I've read his book. It's quite amazing and it was really fun to kind of flesh it out

a little bit with him and just to kind of get to know him and talk with him. His experience
