And the Mike Hill was an E.S. B. N. Sports center anchor and yet, even though he was on top

0:21.0

professionally, he was dealing with a lot of pain and trauma that was

0:25.6

lingering inside him from years before.

0:29.6

It wasn't until he started writing a book about all that.

0:32.8

He started to feel a little bit better

0:36.2

about all the pain that was inside of him.

You know, part of the thing about this wedding and this relationship that's beautiful is where it came out of in your life and the journey that you've begun talking about in terms of like writing this book and meeting her out of

0:54.9

that and your book open mic goes really really deep into your life and your

1:02.0

journey in your attempt to become a better man which is really

1:06.4

inspiring to see.

1:07.6

And I just want to talk about some of the things you touch on in the book and get to like how you have worked on yourself to become a better man.

1:16.0

But, you know, I mean, you start off,

1:19.0

at least in your history, you talk about like,

1:21.0

you know, the domestic violence you witnessed in your childhood home

1:26.5

didn't you talk about that like just like what did you see and how did it affect you it just you know

1:32.4

it traumatized me and but what we don't realize is that as a

1:37.6

person or a young kid that grows up seeing their mom being abused physically and mentally by the man that's supposed to love

1:44.8

her is that at that time you just look at it as kind of normal and it's sad because a lot of us in our community

1:51.9

we've had friends whose moms were also beaten or whatever and you just kind of dealt with it and you live with it and you don't know the type of trauma type of effect it has on your life until later on when you finally get the help that you need.

2:06.3

The first thing I can remember the I don't know how old I was but the first thing I can remember the the oldest memory of my life is my mom getting her ass beaten by my dad and it's just like that is terrible and I knew in one way I don't know if I had this in a sense that I never wanted to be that person when it came to physical abuse to a woman because I saw the effects it had on my mom and I saw the tears and I feel her emotions or whatever.

2:39.0

But at the same time, not having that positive male role model in my life you know the other side of things that I didn't learn so I learned one thing what not to do but I didn't learn the things of what to do and how to treat a woman. So even though I didn't physically abuse women, you know, seeing that type of trauma, it caused me to mentally abuse women because I never saw love in my house. I never saw one time where my mom and my dad just came

3:05.2

each other and said, you know what, I love you.
