This is the post-mortem podcast and I'm Mick Garris. So when did horror go mainstream?

When I was a kid I was the only one I knew who was into horror movies, books, comics, and

television. Yeah, the Twilight Zone was popular in Primetime on CBS,

and ABC had the outer limits.

They also had the horror comedy, The Adams Family,

and NBC had its counterpart, The Munsters.

But I mean the real thing. Horror movies almost never played at my neighborhood

theater. Once in a great while I'd get one of the Korman Poe movies or Psycho at the Drive-In, but it was hard to find true genre films and books in my

wonder years. From the time I was traumatized in childhood by the son of Kong and

threw out my adolescence and dramas seemingly a code word for horror in that particular magazine.

Saturday afternoons there was Chiller Theater on channel 11, channel 5 ran all of the

Universal classics, and once in a while channel 9 would play something darkish on their million dollar movie all week long.

But now the most popular shows on television are about zombies and warrior tribes and dragons.

HBO Blaze Trails with Tales from the Crypt way back when and even my and the airwaves. Stephen King is breaking box office records and

Godzilla is getting yet another big budget reboot. It is the best of times for a

horror fan. We weren't popular kids in my formative years but chances are

this year's prom king and queen are well versed in

James Juan and the Walking Dead. It is a feast unleashing a plethora of
