Hi, folks. My name is Alice. My question is, why do people have negative thoughts?

So Alice, why can people have negative thoughts? Well, there can be many reasons why.

Scientists think it might be something to do with cortisol. It's a chemical in your brain,

which controls your stress levels. It makes you always on high alert. You're ready for fight or flight. And just imagine if your brain is like that all the time constantly ready for something

to happen, for something to maybe jump out and scare you. It would be frayed, right? It would be fried. It would

be really hard for you to do anything else. And the problem with cortisol is that it's always there.

So when you're feeling a bit anxious, because you're having a bad day anyway, this stress hormone

makes it even worse because suddenly you pick up on every bit of danger that's nearby, your

alarm system is ready to go, and it makes positive happy thoughts harder because that cortisol

hormone is already there, it's always getting in the way ready to make you think something

worrying again. So that's one reason why you might have negative thoughts. Also, it could be because you're

overthinking something. You know when this happens. Maybe you're worried about something going on

in a few days' time and it's all you can think about, right? And because you're thinking about it so

much, you're imagining every single thing that can happen and a lot of those might be bad. And
