Summary

This is the last episode before the midterms. I’ll be back to the regular schedule and topics starting next week but I want to thank everyone for sticking with me through the season and the Candidate Conversations. I hope you are going into this election knowing you left it all on the floor. No matter which way this goes, there will be a tomorrow and an America to fight for but boy, would it be great if it went democracy’s way. Last 3 days my friends! Make them count! Today is the last podcast before Election Day. We will have a new pod drop next week,

I chose to be an American. I was living in New York City on 9-11 and like many people that day

1:21.1

changed my life. I lived below 14th Street and the view for my apartment was the Twin Towers.

1:26.6

So every day I watched the smoking rubble of what used to be my skyline and I walked by the missing

1:31.9

signs and the posters that eventually turned into the tiles of remembrance. I was so moved by the

1:37.6

unity I felt in the city during those days. So inspired by the patriotism of the country,

1:42.6

I knew I had to be a part of it. I always say 9-11 made me want to be an American,

1:47.5

but the fallout from 9-11 turned me into a Democrat. After Bush was re-elected,

1:53.0

I knew I could never again go through an election season and not vote. So I became a citizen

1:58.4

and I did so fully drinking the cool aid. I bought into all the American bumper stickers.

The can-do attitude, the shining city on the hill, the place where anyone from anywhere can make
