Summary

This week, Kate provides very Maroon-forward programming with her high-level review of Taylor Swift’s 10th album Midnights (it's totally different from Patreon reaction videos, btw). Now that we’ve had a couple of weeks to let it sink in that karma is a cat, Kate discusses her streams and skips, bread and butter songs versus jams, muses about parallels between sister tracks, goes more in-depth into a handful of songs she’s still analyzing, and also talks about ancillary topics from the past 2 weeks she hasn’t covered, e.g., Anti-hero controversy, Eras tour announcement, Bejeweled video, etc. The last half hour is a semi-intense review of Would've, Could've, Should've from the lens of predatory age gaps, the fetishization of youth, and the implications of young women's virtues communicated as their value, so just a head's up to skip that part if you don't want to be dragged through Kate's confusing thoughts about her past physical interactions that she would've, could've should've probably spared you of.

Long story short, it was a great time. Nothing and everything good happens after Midnights. Enjoy!

Hi everybody, welcome back to the Be There and Buy Podcast. I'm Kate Kennedy, your host.

What a midnight rain humor for you there. It wasn't traumatizing enough the first time.

0:31.2

It's crazy how something so jarring was so overwhelmed upon hearing the intro to midnight

0:37.1

rain at first. I think I had a bit of swimmers here. I was having trouble hearing the song

0:45.3

based on the sonic situation. I just felt drenched with and I skipped over it. Now I

0:52.8

go as far as to say I'd like to be baptized in midnight rain. It's one of my favorite songs.

0:58.3

I'm so sorry for being so off base in my Patreon reaction video. I can't be trusted,

1:05.7

really for anything. As evidenced by this album review coming out two weeks after it debuted.

1:13.2

Yes, I'm Kate Kennedy, your host in case you hadn't heard. I'm a huge tailor-swift fan.

Talking about our albums has been a huge part of this podcast and community over the past almost

1:24.4

five years. Over those five years, the Taylor Swift fandom content machine has

1:31.2

proliferated and fragmented across platforms in ways that is so detailed and in such high volume.

1:37.3

I can't, I simply cannot keep up. I fear I can't, I fear I can't add value. We're comfortable with

1:44.9

such a vast content cycle. You wanted it comfortable, but I wanted that painfully slow rollout

1:51.8

of my thoughts on the album. Literally it took me a week to put out Patreon reaction videos.

1:57.0

Two weeks to put out my review. I need to marinate. I need to let the bouquet open up. I

2:03.0

I really can't be trusted with the first hot take. Midnight rain is the ultimate example.

2:11.1

I love my fucking love this song. It's funny because a lot of on Instagram and stuff, I haven't

2:15.3

really given much of my takes because I'm part of the fun of this for me that we do as a community.

2:22.3

That feels like tradition is doing the Patreon reaction videos. I feel myself listening for the

2:27.1

first time and then I kind of hit pause. I'll take notes. I try to figure out my thoughts that it's

2:32.0

like kind of an initial reaction, but also kind of like really thinking of the lyrics. It usually
