Hello everybody I'm John Fawcett with this Great America Show midday update for Wednesday, October 9th.

Hurricane Milton is battering towards the west coast of Florida.

Milton was centered early Wednesday at about 360 miles southwest of Tampa with the maximum sustained

winds of 160 miles an hour, this according to the National Hurricane Center.

As it closed in more than 1 million people in coastal area regions remained under evacuation

orders, those fleeing for higher ground battling clogged highways and shuttered gas

stations across the state.

Further rattling a region still recovering from devastating impacts of Hurricane Elean less than two weeks ago.

Tampa Bay, which is home to 3.3 million people, is expected to get the eye of the storm.

The National Hurricane Center predicted

Milton a monstrous category 5 hurricane during much of its approach would

likely weaken but remain a major hurricane when it makes landfall on Wednesday night.
