| 0:15.8 | a major milestone rising above the size of the entire economy. As of yesterday, March 31st, federal debt |
| 0:23.4 | held by the public reached $31.3 trillion, slightly exceeding the annual GDP of roughly $31.2 trillion, |
| 0:30.4 | putting the debt to GDP ratio just over 100%. Now, this is the first time the U.S. has |
| 0:35.7 | sustained that level since the years following World War II. |
| 0:39.5 | The government is currently running large deficits, spending more money than it collects. |
| 0:43.7 | For every $1 in revenue, it spends about $1.3, with this year's deficit projected at around $1.9 trillion. |
