To bake a potato in the microwave, first wash it under running water with a vegetable brush or your hands.

Pat it dry with a paper towel.

Puncture four holes in the potato with the tip of a sharp knife to allow the steam to escape.

Otherwise, the potato may explode when you cook it.

Place the potato on a microwave safe dish, then put the dish into the microwave.

One, 7 to 8 ounce potato takes about 7 minutes to cook.
