Right now, each country is supposed to spend 2% of its GDP on defense.

Most member states are expected to reach that benchmark this year.

But sources tell the FT that European states are having preliminary discussions about raising that target to 3%. There's really two reasons for this change. One of them is Donald Trump. The U.S.
