Summary

Stew and Bruce discuss the final NCAA sanctions against Michigan for the Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal — why there was no postseason ban, the millions of dollars in fines, and what it means for Jim Harbaugh's legacy. Then, it's time for football! They preview the Week 0 matchups, starting with the biggest: Kansas State vs. Iowa State in Dublin, Ireland, a Big 12 clash between two potential conference champions. Other games include Fresno State at Kansas (Matt Entz's debut) and Frank Reich's unique one-year stint at Stanford against Hawaii.

Mailbag tackles the eternal college football vs. NFL debate, whether "culture" in college football is real or just convenient mythology, and what would happen if Ohio State went rogue against their TV deal.

We're going to watch some football this weekend, and we're going to talk about Kansas State, Iowa State, and a couple other games. But first, I know it's been a few days now

0:27.0

since the Michigan NCAA sanctions came down, but this is our first chance to talk about it.

0:33.3

And, you know, I know Taylor Swift broke the internet when she was on Travis Kelsey's show,

0:38.9

but, I mean, it seemed like college football internet went up in flames when we found out

0:43.7

that Michigan was not getting a postseason ban.

0:46.6

Well, there's certainly some finality to this, at least we think, and certainly for the

0:51.3

probably NCAA justice system as well,

0:59.5

since the format from the revenue share model and everything else has kind of changed,

1:06.1

how we think the NCAA or how basically justice will be meted out in college athletics. So I would ask you, you know,

1:08.7

because we've talked about this a ton over the last couple of years.

1:12.7

Now that the final punishment has been handed out, now there is no postseason ban.

1:19.3

There were no vacated wins, certainly the national title that Michigan won over Washington a couple of years ago.

1:27.0

That has not been taken away.

1:29.2

What's your reaction?

1:31.5

I had a feeling there would be no postseason ban

1:33.7

because they have gotten away from that.

1:35.9

And if you remember the Tennessee,

1:38.4

Jeremy Pruitt, McDonald's bags full of cash case

1:43.0

a couple years ago,

2:11.3

when they didn't do a postseason ban for that and they explained the rationale right there I don't know why it took this long to come to this conclusion that it unfairly punishes athletes who weren't who didn't commit these these infractions I had a feeling that would be the case in Michigan I thought vacatedated wins would be on the table, but, you know, they kind of make up this stuff as they go along, and they said that in the conference call, those are only used when there's ineligible players.
