Summary

We all have a backstory of how we got started hunting. Hunting traditions and the skill of hunting has been past down many generations here in the state of Michigan. Lee and his brother grew up hearing stories of their great grandfather and thought it would be cool to get their 84 year old grandpa (who is still hunting) to sit down for a podcast for them to record so future generations of hunters in their family could hear how it all started and what life was like for a hunter back in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. On this episode Lee is joined by his grandpa (Harold Kleinow), his dad (Dan Kleinow) and brother (Chad Kleinow) to discuss his family’s heritage in the hunting culture in Michigan. Throughout the conversation Chad provides a timeline of wildlife statistics, specifically on white-tailed deer to give you some perspective of how dense the deer population was throughout the 20th century. If you live in Michigan it is interesting to hear the peaks and valleys of the deer population and how different wildlife management techniques affected the deer herd. This episode’s roots run deep and is what living an outdoors life in Michigan is all about. Cheers!
