Summary

In this episode, Zach Shaw and Steve Lorenz break down their biggest takeaways from the No. 2 Michigan football team’s 41-13 win over Purdue. In the second half of the episode, they also look at the latest discussions related to the NCAA’s investigation in alleged sign-stealing by the Wolverines’ staff.

They open with a discussion about Michigan’s win, which moved the Wolverines to 9-0 on the season with all nine wins coming by at least 24 points. They discuss a strong showing from Michigan’s wide receivers, some perspective on JJ McCarthy and discuss just how concerning Michigan’s run-game struggles are. The conversation moves over to the defensive side of the ball, as the two look at top players, trends and takeaways as the Wolverines’ defense shined once again.

Then, in the second half of the episode, the two re-open their discussion about the sign-stealing scandal Michigan is being investigated for. They look at how things have changed since their last discussion Thursday, why a lot hasn’t changed, why there’s a Harbaugh-centric animosity from other Big Ten programs and the Wolverines prepping to fight the Big Ten if needed. They also offer the latest on the Big Ten’s meeting with Michigan administration late last week, among other updates.

I'm your host, Sack Shaw. Steve Lorenz here with me talking a little Michigan, Purdue, the Wolverines, after a, I'm sure what felt like a very long two weeks away from game action for Michigan fans, returned to Michigan Stadium, and they beat Purdue 41 to 13.

0:21.9

Second half of the episode, we'll also talk a little bit about Sign Gate.

0:25.2

I mean, we did talk about it for around 40 minutes in our latest episode, but we'll

0:30.9

have some updates and some additional thoughts with even more news, since it seems like every day, there's like another piece of news that comes out.

0:41.5

But first, we'll focus on the Wolverines, win over Purdue.

0:44.6

Kind of similar to a lot of their wins this season.

0:47.9

I guess the interesting part was that the middle third of the game,

0:51.4

it did seem like Michigan kind of were in a different gear.

0:54.4

You know, they came out super hot, got up 17, nothing with two easy offensive drives and then

1:00.9

an interception that was almost returned for a touchdown that turned into a field goal. And then

1:04.6

their next like six, seven drives, they only scored three more points. But then late in the third quarter and in the

1:12.7

fourth quarter final 20 minutes of the game or so, they started to pour it back on. They

1:17.6

scored three touchdowns. So we'll talk a little bit about what worked, what didn't work. And

1:22.0

obviously a lot of eyeballs are shifting toward that matchup against Penn State. Michigan's first not only ranked matchup of the season, but first matchup against a top

1:32.2

50 team this season.

1:35.1

So a very intriguing game just in the sense that the competition level would be raised

1:40.3

so much.

1:40.9

And Penn State, you know, we'll see, obviously, but it seemed like they

1:44.7

started to figure some things out on their offense this past weekend. But Steve, focusing

1:49.8

on Michigan, I got to say, you know, if you're asking me offense, what jumped out to you,

1:54.7

we'll talk about the run game in a moment, but I do think the wide receivers deserve a lot
