Summary

Was a police officer really protecting the public—or himself—when he declared Sandra Birchmore's death a suicide? This episode takes a hard look at the twisted and tragic story of Sandra Birchmore, who, as a 12-year-old girl, sought guidance through the Stoughton, Massachusetts police explorer program. Instead, she found herself preyed upon by the very people meant to protect her—the alleged Farwell brothers and a school resource officer, who passed her around in a sickening game of abuse. Add in the involvement of Trooper Michael Proctor, the first officer on the scene, who not only signed off on Birchmore’s “suicide” but also had his hands in other questionable cases, including that of Anna Walsh and Karen Read. When the same officer seems to be at the center of multiple controversial investigations, what’s really going on behind the badge?

Sandra Birch Moore, she was the 12-year-old police explorer student who had her parents die or grandmother die, living in just a really tough spot in life, looking for some guidance, looking for some direction.

0:47.5

And yeah, she found it in the police explorer program.

0:51.0

Unfortunately, it was the police explorer program over in Stoughton, Massachusetts, right over there in Karen Reed country, and the officers that she was matched up with that were leading at the Farwell brothers, which, well, one of them has now been charged and had been grooming her since she was 12 years old.

1:10.7

But that's not to stop Brotherly Love later, where apparently they kind of passed her around

in a real sick way.

And then we also hear now allegations of the school resource officer.

Also, having his way with Sandra Birchmore as well.

It's a twisted, twisted case.

Joining me to discuss Eric Fattis, defense attorney. Those are twisted enough. I want to ask you

about the brothers, though, because you have William and Matthew. We have Matthew who has the

charges against him. William has not been charged with anything, but apparently,

1:49.4

according to some documents, they allegedly had a sexual encounter. 22 days before her death,

he knew that she was pregnant with her brother's baby, but still, hey, why not in their mind?

2:02.4

Criminal charges here, probably not against him unless they can prove that this was going back to being a minor, correct?

2:11.6

I would agree so, but there are allegations that Birchmore was involved with this program for years and years, including when she was a minor.
